traveled around the country for a while until i landed here, about 2 years ago now. i'd been living in pittsburgh for 7 years, and before that i grew up in maryland

I'm visiting friends and bridges in Pittsburgh this summer.

they do have some beautiful bridges there, i really miss crossing them all the time

I'm a big obsessed with bridges. when I'm there I'm planning to see the Three Sisters, the Wheeling Suspension Bridge, and a bridge in Blaine, Ohio. Do you have recommendations for bridges to add to the list?

nope, the Wheeling Suspension is in Wheeling, WV, and then the one in Blaine Ohio is in Ohio :)

shoot, i screwed up - have to start over

i don't know any of their names, just the streets that they cross. i just remember crossing them on my bike a lot -- the hot metal bridge in south side/greenfield, the 6th and 9th and 10th st bridges, big yellow suspensions, the liberty bridge, the 16th st bridge... there are so many of them, it's hard to avoid them

half of them are beat to hell and full of potholes, but it's still fun riding along the edges and getting good views of the river and islands below.

i think the 6th, 9th, and 10th are the three sisters - identical bridges all parallel? I should check out some of the others in Pittsburgh proper. There's a good website for bridges in Pittsburgh:

yeah, that sounds right -- they cross into the north side from downtown

if you go up mt washington to lookout point on the south side, you can get an incredible view of downtown, including about half the bridges in the city

there's a similar view if you go up 18th st in the south side, up mt oliver

they're called the three sisters, huh? seems appropriate enough. :) there was this guy, i can't remember his name, who would climb up and tag the bridges in really hard to reach spots. the authorities couldn't figure out how the hell he was doing it, and they had a hard time wiping out the tags

i hope some of them are still there, i always got a little thrill thinking about climbing up there

yeah, i'm making slow progress on the puzzle. this beer is making me chatty

since i was the oldest, my mom kept me away from a lot of sweets for a long time - i don't think i had any candy until i was 5. and if you asked me as a toddler, "what do you do with soda?" apparently i would respond "dump it down the drain."

she also gave me a huge tin of butter cookies for him

lol nice. yeah we were raised without sugar for a long time ... it was all sugar free candy for us (on rare occasions) or carab or yogurt covered raisins and peanuts

i don't get those tins of butter cookies. i mean butter cookies are yummy if homemade, but those tins... just kind of blah, i think
