Could someone explain what a naked triple is? Dr Who said there was one in yesterday's puzzle and helped solve the puzzle. Will it help me as well?

it means that the same three digits are repeated in three cells in the same row/column/3x3 grid

Thanks BbP. I looked it up , but still could not make sense of how to apply that to yesterday's puzzle. I will keep mulling it over. Perhaps a lightbulb will light up suddenly.

OK, I called up yesterday's grid, with all the greens filled in . Now what about the naked triple?

well, look at the right hand column

yes?

do you see how there are three squares where the five and the eight cannot go? only the 1, 7, and 9 can.

the 1 and 7 appear in three squares

right

and the nine is in two of those

ok

so you have 3 squares, and nothing but choices from among those three numbers can go in them

which means, those three numbers, in some arrangement, HAVE to go in those three squares, or some square would not have a number.

ok, now what?

well that means that those three numbers do NOT go in the other two squares, the five and the eight do.

which leaves only one place for the 9 in the middle right section.

once you get that in place, the rest follows.

well, I put the l in the bottom one and not above the 3?

maybe my greens are wrong. From the bottom up the column reads 7, 3 , blank, 2 9 1 4 , x, 6. some thing is wrong
