This is my first one. What are greens and how do you use them???

luv: greens are a way of marking which numbers can go into any given square. If you look down a couple of posts, and click on spreadeagle's icon, he has the code in his bio. Just select it, and copy it into the address window of your browser, and it will auto fill the greens

greens show what the possibilities are for a cell. you place them by holding shift and clicking on the number. happy hunting!

finally!!! i solved (well, guessed really) the evil puzzle from 1st October last year. Must have been like my sixth attempt. Need to swot up on my technique :)

that was a "hard"? It went through easier than a number of "easy" ones -- no hidden pairs, no greens needed, just crosshatching. DrWho hasn't posted a difficulty yet, but I doubt it's over 20.

Difficulty score 39.

Spellacked is right, no hidden pairs are needed, but at least 1 naked pair is. If you only used cross-hatching you made some leaps of faith somewhere.

can someone remind me what a "naked pair"is?

If two cells in a group contain an identical pair of candidates and only those two candidates, then no other cells in that group could be those values.

No greens. Two loners and a pair were the only non-crosshatch or virtual crosshatch cells.

i have no clue what a crosshatch and non crosshatch is. no wonder i struggle at this game! but i still like the challenge!

if you are missing a prev puzzle, it is real easy, because if you look where it says where you are on the web, the puzzle number for any archived puzzle is at the end. so oct 23rd you can just manually put in www.ironsudoku.com/592 for instance.

well artlady, i dunno about "too neutral"... sometimes neutral is good, sometimes extreme is good, to everything there is a season. and this season is Fall. are the swiss too neutral?

Hurshy, when we lived in Rhode Island a lot of people asked us if we lived on Rhode Island. I couldn't believe it. I said no, we live on Aquidneck Island. Then they wanted to know if we had to row boats to shore! I said RI was actually rather advanced & in fact had bridges. Doofusi.

Oh yes. We have a disproportionate number in CA. Well, Hurshy, we were Navy. First time around lived in Low Income housing (Oxbow Farms in Middletown) second time around Military Housing. Yuck.

No, military housing. It was okay, but I hated having to ask permission to put a picture up & we got in trouble once because our lawn was 1/8 inch too high.

Artlady, oh yes. They sent lower ranking sailors around. They also checked our recycling stuff & rejected it if it wasn't spotlessly clean.

About a 100 miles from SD. Closer to the Lake Arrowhead fires. We have one smaller one (only about 1000 acres) about 10 miles from us.

Well, I "refuse" to hear it! Lol. What is it? Well, Hursh, compared to 100,000, yeah, that's all. 5000 in the mountains.

when i lived at the boarding school, we had dumpsters in a certain place and rather than try to get trash out on certain days and times (which people's dogs would get into anyway) we would just take ours to the dumpster

well one day when my husband was away - on a week long trip for the school

i took my trash to the dumpsters and they were gone! and i looked around and saw something a little bit away that looked dumpsterish

so i went over there and as it turns out it was a new trash compactor, but it was not open. not knowing what to do, i left my trash next to the compactor.

when i got home, i found the trash returned to my house, scattered all over the front lawn - i guess by the dogs!

you see, they had put a notice in my husband's school mailbox saying the hours the compactor was open and that they would return trash that was left near it. but as he was away, i only bothered checking the external mail, so i did not know this.

Oh my! It would be so nice if people explained that they were changing things & what you should do. I wouldn't have had a clue about what to do with a compactor. I've never even seen one!

Ah, they sort of let you know. But still...

i was extremely hurt that they did not think about the fact that he was away and i might not have gotten the note, and have a little grace period. they always talked about how we were this great community, you know?

seems like under the circs it would have been easier for them to put it in the compactor that time than bring it all the way back to my house (which must have meant they had to go through the trash for identifying info, ick!)

I don't know. They make them so cute, but they don't look so cute in your home. Maybe they are easier to create?

i can't think they would be easier to create than any other animals... i mean they have done other things... undersea creatures for instance...
