I've made the same mistake twice, but still fail to see where I go wrong. I end up having only two possibilities on one row with three empty squares.

Did I just sleepclick my way through a sudoku?

the 4s kind of helped the lower right 3x3 work things out up and to the left from there

easy if you put in the right numbers

But I think that hidden and naked pairs will lead to progress if you can find them.

8:54 am

ANgie have you googled it?
8:54 am

Poochie, I'm getting annoyed. How can you continue to disregard my overtures?
8:55 am
angieplumptit

Poochie, tu parle francais?
8:55 am
drwho

8:55 am

Jesusland has to be experienced in person
8:56 am
hokie carla

where is Jesusland?
8:56 am

Maybe Poochie would be more receptive if you put up a more flattering picture of yourself.
8:57 am
angieplumptit

That's me in the ball cap. OK?
8:57 am

hmm..I grew up in VA & have been in NC since '95 & I've never seen a Jesusland.

9:37 pm

I'm not sure, but lately I've been having really bad mental blocks.
9:38 pm
btwrt

i always have those ... ;) actually a lot of the reason i'm slow is that i recheck every move obsessively because i hate it when i've made a mistake and have to start over
9:39 pm
bgmadden

My mental blocks are usually 8 & 10 years old...
9:39 pm
btwrt

ahh!
9:40 pm
btwrt

i have a very stubborn mental block that's been plaguing me for nearly 3 years now
9:40 pm
bgmadden

grin
9:40 pm
btwrt

the great thing about that mental block is that it doesn't tend to bother me between about 8:30 PM and 8:30 AM
9:41 pm
bgmadden

I start and then someone sneaks out of bed and I lose my place. My 10 year old would stay up to 11:00 reading if you don't intervene.
9:42 pm
btwrt

ooh, i hope my 3 year old is that much into reading when he's that age. :D
9:43 pm
bgmadden

He hides books under his matress. We used reverse psychology on him to instill his passion for reading..;-)

JustMe

hello room
10:12 pm
Montreal13

hi just !
10:12 pm
JustMe

i have been playing sudoku on and off for a while and understand the rules..but does anyone have any insights or clues for the hard ones
10:12 pm
JustMe

i just can't seem to get the hang of starting out
10:22 pm
Montreal13

what i do, and i'm no expert Just, i fill it up as much as i can then pick a situation where only 2 possibilities exist - i pick one (after saving a checkpoint) and see where that leads me - when it leads to a bottleneck, then I KNOW that the reverse of my original pick is TRUE - that's, in a nutshell, my primary approach....
10:24 pm
JustMe

thank you. my problem with that is, I'm not pro so I can't save checkpoints. One false move and I have to start over!
10:26 pm
Montreal13

am not a pro either - i write down the numbers that would be saved in a checkpoint and note the 2 possibilities and the one i picked...
10:27 pm
JustMe

i looked back through the log and i see someone finished in 2 minutes. i think, geez, what secret am i missing?
10:27 pm
JustMe

duh! montreal, that's a good idea that i could not think of on my own!
10:28 pm
Montreal13

apparently there are "tricks", known techniques that i'm not aware of... i just use my regular horse sense...
10:29 pm
Montreal13

tonite's took me 20 minutes or so...
10:30 pm
JustMe

i was talking to my friend this evening who was here at the flip and he said he gave up
10:30 pm
JustMe

that made me want to try it...and i've been staring at the grid for 15 minutes and only entered a few numbers!
10:31 pm
Montreal13

i know that i completed the bottom right corner... save for 2 boxes - that is where i picked one of 2 number possibilities...
10:33 pm
JustMe

and all you had to say was that corner...and i found a simple entry!
10:33 pm
Montreal13

see !!
10:33 pm
JustMe

thank you!
10:35 pm
Montreal13

my bed beckons... good luck Just !
10:36 pm
JustMe

thank you...good night
10:36 pm

'nite
10:40 pm
Montreal13

oh... one more thing: many players refer to "greens" - i believe there is a software that you can run and it will fill the empty boxes in the sudoku grid with all the possible values for each box with little green numbers... - i never use them and i don't know which software and how to get it but you could ask when the chatroom is busier... - i don't use "greens", trying to solve the board without... and i succeed most of the time...g'nite again anf best of luck !!!
