Yes, it's a very basic technique.

As for the name, there doesn't seem to be any agreement on what to call it. The scanraid site has 2 different names for variations on the same technique.

I am afraid most of the terminology is unknown to me. I just try and find the next number.

Dr who, do you think this one is mis-graded? I started out using greens on the theory that it was a hard one, but breezed along and solved in within ten minutes filling in greens manually. And I am not a particularly advanced sudoku player.

Done. No greens, but took about half an hour.

autofill just automates the greens (and reds). it speeds the process a bit. it's a javascript ditty.

To Janet and others who were wondering, no today's is not misgraded. Hard means that you have to use hidden or naked pairs to solve it. Today's required hidden and naked pairs to solve. It still may be perceived as "easy", but technically it is a hard.
