That was a dictionary definition he was quoting. Those weren't his words.

The comparison is ludicrous. No one here is making it.

Except, so far as I can tell, you and hk, who are both reacting to the fact that these are concentration camps by insisting that they're absolutely not, because they're not as bad as the Nazis.

I suppose you could make an argument that the dictionary is implicitly making that comparison. "You know who ELSE [put people in concentration camps]/[did x]?" is a pretty standard line.

People are being kept for weeks and months without showers or soap or toothbrushes or changes of clothing. They're not being fed enough. They're being given Mylar "blankets" and told to sleep on concrete floors in frigid rooms, even when there's not enough space to lie down; an investigation in May found more than 900 people in a space designed for 125.

And, Jesus, they're in West Texas--do you know how *expensive* it is to keep those rooms frigid? It's HOT where I am. It's a helluva lot hotter where they are.

There have been outbreaks of flu, lice, chicken pox, and scabies. This treatment violates both US and international law.

They don't come "with full knowledge of their fate." They didn't sign up to be treated like this.

And you're reacting to this by arguing about what these places ought to be called, because apparently "concentration camp" isn't OK. It fits the legal and dictionary definitions, but Hitler did that so you're not OK with the words.

Trump is someone who is supposed to represent America and it's people. Are those that support him so resentful of any other politician that they are still willing to vote for him?
3:19 am
Phil

Wouldn't you be urging another republican to run against him? Surely there is someone who isn't thought of with so much disdain by billions around the world and by all accounts most Americans.

His tenure in any other civilised society would have ended by now. A joke's a joke, but if he stays much longer there's going to be a war somewhere to enable him to show how great America is. The World has had enough.

Trump 2020. it is not the world that has had enough, but global elitists, their media enablers and the beta male cucks who have had enough and they are not the ones who put Trump in office.

I find it interesting (and sad) that Trump supporters are unable to address any specific issue. They can't address the widening income gap, the huge deficits, the cruelty at the border, the huge turnover of personnel, not to mention fundamental character issues. Instead, they've drunk the Kool-Aid of "fake news", "global elitists" and other meaningless cliches.

Phil, President Trump does have competition in his own party. The other Republican declared candidate is former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld. There are also rumors that former Senator Bob Corker (Tennessee) and former Ohio Governor John Kasich may join the primary race (there are many others who have declined). I would like the media to pay some attention to Governor Weld but they remain fixated on Trump.

Geez Kaosangle, I sure don't want to be a cuck. Tell me what to do. Give the old girl a whack up alongside the head, show her who's boss? Vet her friends? Monitor her media devices? Shame her publicly? C'mon, Kaos, share!

"They don't come "with full knowledge of their fate." They didn't sign up to be treated like this. " Yes the do and yes, they did. These are not the "noble savages" - they are humans just like you and me who make choices to subject themselves and their children to a horribly dangerous journey all based on lies told by activists. Their plea for amnesty is scripted. My question to you SJ and Penguin is exactly, specifically what are you two doing to alleviate their suffering other than whining in this forum which is a total waste of time? Whining here will not change Trump, the Democrats, or the Republicans. ICE will still conduct its raids. People will still imperil their lives to get here and suffer once they do.

KT, if you are honestly saying that people are coming here *expecting* to be dropped into cages so crowded that there isn't room to lay down, kept without access to sanitation for weeks on end, denied adequate food and water, and kept in conditions that encourage outbreaks of disease, all for a slender chance at a batter life than the one they had, then I don't really know how to talk to you.

But I am curious: If you believe that they're coming here based on lies, then why do you believe they know what to expect? If they know to expect this, then can you even imagine how horrific the conditions they're leaving must be for them to take the chance?

So are they being lied to, or do they know exactly what they're getting themselves into?

Also: Yeah, anything I'm doing or not doing is none of your business. I get why you'd want to try to change the subject, though.

I remember my innocent days, when I still could almost believe that there weren't people who would defend other people being treated like this.

There isn't even a "but they didn't follow the RUUULLLES" defense. Yes, they did. Coming here is how you're *supposed* to apply for asylum. They're not breaking the laws.

That's our government that's breaking the law.

If person A walks (probably) knowingly into a situation where person B will probably commit a crime against him/her, does that make B less of a criminal?

Of course not.

Your assumption that asylum seeks know what to expect is erroneous. Most are fleeing horrible situations, exacerbated by the US cutting back on programs that might have helped them where they were, in the hope of something better. They subject themselves to a risky journey because staying put is riskier.

Assuming that they have scripted pleas for amnesty is quite a reach. There are immigration attorneys who endeavor to help before asylum seekers reach the border but most don't have that advantage. And the initial plea is not what matters, it is the determination of of judges who can interview and find the truth (if they are not rushed, which the administration seems to want). Any of us who prejudge en masse are going to be wrong at least part of the time.

Then you ask, "My question to you SJ and Penguin is exactly, specifically what are you two doing to alleviate their suffering other than whining in this forum which is a total waste of time?"

If you think this is just whining then why are you wasting time responding? Are you enjoying what you perceive as whining?

As to my efforts, suffice to say that most of my time is neither spent playing Sudoku nor in this chatterbox. If I were wealthy then I would be funding both those who are suing the administration and legal funds for asylum seekers.

And let me second SamanthaJoy (not in her words) that President Trump's law and order administration is playing fast and loose with laws they are supposed to uphold. Law breaking administration appears to be closer to the truth.
