this site isn't set up for collaborative/competitve puzzle solving, just solving 'em individually and chatting about them...

This month there is apparently an Expert Tuesday special. So far every Tuesday this month has been an expert, plus 1 Saturday.

I finally solved yesterday's expert without guessing. The Alternating Inference Chain technique works!
11:26 am
OrangeSlice

hehe, indeed it does.
11:27 am
OrangeSlice

I was a bit unsure of it at first too, but when I ran it and everything turned out valid, well... :)

AIC is very powerful, it actually subsumes all of the other advanced chain techniques. You can actually combine the XY chain technique with simple and multi-coloring techniques and probably others whose name I don't even know.
11:33 am
OrangeSlice

I think it's going to a highly valuable technique to know for future troublesome puzzles.
11:35 am
drwho

Yes, and I find it easy to "try". It takes a good deal of work to actually find a chain that is useful, but it is easy to construct chains and see where they lead.

OrangeSlice

Yesterday's puzzle also had a death blossom in it, although it wasn't terribly useful other than solving for a naked pair (which didn't lead to much else)
