Hi Ellenz, most people will object to paying people to do nothing, trouble is by making it impossible to get out of the poverty trap and making people feel worthless and suicidal, you end up in the mess we are all in today. It's about time we started thinking and trying a different approach. This change of attitude is going to be really necessary very soon, when artificial intelligence starts to kick in in a big way and we have to totally rethink our education systems, to teach our kids about jobs we haven't even thought of yet. It will be exciting times for some yet swathes of society will lose their jobs and their ability to pay their own way. Why should someone who works incredibly hard, often 2 or 3 jobs doing the things others find beneath them, earn less than a tiny fraction of others who very often are in government or other jobs that are actually created just to employ people and are actually meaningless and unproductive? It is manifestly unjust and frankly getting worse. The lack of compassion I see is really frightening.

I read a survey today that almost half of the Americans polled believe the press is the enemy of the people and the government should be able to silence them!!!!!

This is just so scary its beyond belief. You already skew your legal process by politicians picking your judges so you have already got a judiciary that is not independent. And now you want a press that can't hold your elected officials to account? Can you all really be that blind to the way you are being manipulated?

Phil, the judges are (on a federal level) at least lifetime appointments, which does leave the judges unbeholden.

And other than that, well, I laugh at myself for even saying this, but: #notallamericans

Remember that ours is neither a majority rule government nor a coalition government. It's a minority making these stupid decisions. And, unfortunately, because of the way our Constitution is organized, we're on our way to having something like 30% of the people in the US have 70% of the representation.

It is pretty scary Phil. I would like to see the source for the poll you cited. I have seen ones that indicate that half of all Trump supports believe that (not even half of Republicans). I also saw a poll that 1/3 of Americans believe the press is "evil." But that poll was only of 1000 people - hardly significant. I am not giving up faith in Americans quite yet. Call me Pollyana
