exactly drwho, when the majority disagree with something it's time to change. That is what democracy is about, the ability to change through a democratic vote. Shame your political system pretty much guarantees things won't change.

What you don't do is make it easy for criminals, terrorists, the mentally ill etc. You make it illegal to publish plans for the manufacture of any firearm without a licence issued through strict controls. To those that aren't aware, a 3D digital printer ia available for a few hundred dollars. I personally had a bicycle frame manufactured out of titanium tubing into 3D printed titanium joints to enable personal fitment. Admittedly that was through a special 3D printer, but it certainly doesn't just mean plastic.

Yup, drwho, freedom is risky and dangerous. So I urge you to exercise great caution in sending your children to school, in church, at the mall, at the movies, at a concert and walking in dark places.

3D printers have become much cheaper lately. They are able to print using metals too. But this debate is a distraction. It is not illegal to build/make your own gun in the U.S. I have all the tools in my home to build any gun I would like. The person making these files available hates all government and wants everyone to have a gun. Much like some in this chat who say freedom when they actually mean no government. They cite the founders when it suits them yet ignore them when it doesn't. Much like the Bible thumping hypocrites that still support the orange monster in the White House. Get woke. Get ready for impeachment. Get ready for the big blue wave.

You need to exercise caution as well, tuco. Those who support Trump and his values will still be around after November and in six ans a half years. And what separates the tribes is not disagreement, but hatred, raw and ready. On the bright side, a war will bring everyone together again. Someone will probably think of that remedy soon.

Trump supporters are mostly old or young white supremacists. Less than 25% of the population. Their voices are amplified by corporate media. The left is strong. The left is United and ready to return to referring to the great depression as the Republican Depression and this liar in the White House proposing another 100 billion in tax cuts, filling the swamp, not doing anything about health care. Most of the Republican leadership in the house jumping ship. We are poised to halt this return to the gilded age. This is nothing new. We go in cycles. The oligarchs in this country and others have gone too far electing this half wit and robbing our treasury. The people will rise up like we did 80 years ago. It may take another Republican economic crash but we could find it off with big wins this November

tuco, you're a clueless idiot. I pray you didn't/don't reproduce as if you did/do we are another step closer to the movie "Idiocracy". Though President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho would still be better than Hillary or anyone you would support.

Phil - how do you prevent 3d printers from downloading or printing a firearm? It doesn't know what it's printing, it's just a lump of plastic. You start doing that, you end up with printers that will only print what is authorized by the manufacturer, e.g. you need a Disney printer for your Disney/Marvel figurines, a Home Depot printer for your appliance repairs, etc. Go read Makers by Cory Doctorow for a fictional situation very similar to that.

Tuco, we mean the freedom our founding fathers intended, not anarchy. For instance, you have tried to undermine the 2nd amendment. It is irrelevant. Without it, it would still be unconstitutional to have federal gun control laws. Back when our legislators still had some respect for the constitution they first got the 18th ratified before enacting the Volstead Act. Nowhere in the constitution does it say the people's right to alcoholic beverage shall not be infringed, yet they needed the 18th amendment. Why? Because nowhere in the constitution is the federal government given the power to regulate the manufacture and sale of alcohol. Likewise for guns. Show me where the Constitution allows the regulation of guns.

B.T.W. before we get bent out of shape by Cody Wilson's plans for a 3d printed gun, let's get straight what it actually is. He only has plans for an AR-15 stripped lower and a magazine. His early attempts at this kept breaking after less than 100 rounds (the buffer tube kept breaking off). He now claims to have a design that lasts for at least 600 rounds. As far as I can see, he doesn't have a practical design, unless you use a 3d printer with high quality plastic or metal. Beyond that, you still have to get a barrel, a complete upper, a lower parts kit, a pistol grip and the buffer tube and stock at a minimum before you might have a functioning AR-15. Anyone with access to a milling machine and who knows how to use it can get the specifications to design and manufacture their own AR-15 stripped lower. The only thing special about the lower is that is the part with the serial number and so by law that is the gun. You cannot ship, receive or sell an AR-15 lower unless you have an Federal Firearms License, but all the rest of the parts can be shipped, received and sold by anyone.

angie - I see you are from Canada. What I believe separates the sides here in the US is simple education, worldliness and a good set of morals & ethics. Trump supporters are lacking in these areas. That's why they voted for a television personality with zero political experience or knowledge - he wasn't even aware of the lands of which he was president. This is not hatred. I don't hate the uneducated, I pity them. I don't hate those who haven't learned anything from WWII, I pity them - even more.

Once again I support the 2nd amendment as written for a well regulated militia. Gun nuts join a militia and have your weapons under lock and key and only used for training in and when called for national defense instead of the runaway slave patrols and to protect against slave uprisings it was originally meant for.

We are near the end of a swing in history that happens every 80-100 years in this country. The pendulum swings to the right giving corporations more and more power. Many average working people climb on board blaming everyone but their corporate masters until they get hurt. It takes alot. Many people don't believe the deserve to get paid a wage commensurate with their labor and believe unions are evil. They believe like Margaret Thatcher said, And, you know, there is no such thing as society. "There are individual men and women and there are families." This is the evil of the Right Wing. Fend for yourself, work hard, you are not responsible for anyone but yourself. Your co-worker is being sexually harassed or underpaid? What do you care? You would never do that. She must have deserved it anyway. No? The CEO of my company is doing what? He is buying back company stock, driving up the price and then selling it for a huge profit? And now Donald Trump is proposing raising the basis on stock purchases based on inflation? Wait a minute! The CEO makes 30 time the average salary of the hourly workers here? And he is doing that stock thing? How can he get away with that? Where is society (government)? Can't they regulate this kind of behavior? Oh wait, I voted to get government off my back. Oh no, my 27 year old daughter was just diagnosed with breast cancer. She is no longer on our health insurance, has $90K of student loan debt. Can't something be done to help her? Oh wait, I voted to get rid of Obama Care and was against expanding Medicaid in my state. Oh Well this must be the price of Freedom. I know Q would agree.

btw my daughter is not 27 nor does she have breast cancer. That was a hypothetical situation below.

Angie, I think there will be riots in the street if Trump starts a wag the dog war. I still remember the protests against Viet Nam. But if we do and they need recruits I have a couple names that I would like to send to a recruiting station. :-0

Who would he go to war with? Canada? Mexico? He has already made nice with Putin, Syria is owned by Russia now so I doubt we go in the heavy? Maybe Qatar to do the bidding of the Saudi leader? Interesting thought exercise. Where would Donnie invade. Hmmm maybe Puerto Rico. That would work.

Or maybe he does a Handmaids Tale and murders Congress and the Senate if they turn against him. Also Confederates will attack all the State Capitols and Sinclair broadcasting will cover it up. See Q has nothing on me. :-)
