To be honest, I agree with helenkeller, chat on sudoku is one part, but I also like to hear other discussions, especially from around the world. And I really have no desire to go on Facebook, not a big fan of their willingness to share my data around to make a buck. What'sApp was great but they bought that. But at least I don't get bombarded with ads I'm not interested in or people cleaning their teeth a different way that morning.

I've said this before in the chat and I'll happily say it again: While I welcome intelligent debate, there are infinitely more appropriate places to have them than a chat box on a sudoku page. Before people stepped in the last time around, the chat had degenerated from a passionate exchange of views to insult-trading. Dr God has no wish to moderate the chat and it's quite clear that, once we go off-topic, we're not capable of keeping things civil. This is a sudoku puzzle page, let's please keep the chat sudoku-related.

I think this means I can ask for a hint on the 3rd June puzzle - anyone?

I'd love to help you Stewart, but can't remember how I got through that one.

There's a MUCH better hint :D

I am too new to this game - unsure what that hint actually is &/or what I do with it - but TY

Hehe debating on chat substance. Is that inappropriate? Or is it Iron Sudoku related. KT Angie has been hin for a Glock for Xmas for years. You should send her one.

I can understand why MrO and Phil would be interested in hearing what US citizen think of current events. Seeing as how 40% of us support someone who just went full Nixon by announcing he is above the law. Scary stuff.

Kate, in answer to the comment you have on your Iron Sudoku profile page regarding how to use the auto-greens script: Simply copy and paste the javascript code you have listed into the address window of your browser ... all possible values for each of the empty grid cells will be generated as tiny green numbers. It then becomes your mission to eliminate the "false" greens to logically ascertain the correct value that should be in each cell.

should say "address bar" (not address window) ... AND, to make the process even easier, you can set a bookmark (on your bookmark bar) to execute this code whenever you click on the bookmark.

I looked back at mine Stewart... it is the start of the middle ROW. Hope it helps you :)

the autogreens are a lifesaver when on mobile, since you can't shift-click or alt-click on phone screens. I wish the little pop-up with the numbers had a toggle for the color instead. Even with autogreens, you can't eliminate other numbers based on, say, box-line reductions.

But note that it depends on your mobile browser how it works. On Chrome, finding the bookmark and executing it works right, on Samsung's Internet app, executing the bookmark will take you to a blank web page.

... and you'll have to paste the bookmark text in every time

TMH it would be interesting to hear from drgod if he intended the chat to be only sudoku related. I have absolutely no idea. Purely conjecture, but maybe, just maybe he or she thought it might be a discussion page about things other than solving the puzzle. And whilst it remains civil and for the most part it appears to be, why not enjoy a bit of banter. I think wherever you have people from around the world with a common interest, discussions on other subjects are inevitable. I welcome them. You may not. But I wouldn't presume to tell you to what to chat about. Currently it's a free world, well it is where I come from. Other places not so much.

@tuco - You know that I cannot send a glock to angie. That would be illegal. Even if I could do it, I would not since i do not know her. Not to mention, they are expensive.

Besides, we're only human, any chat will degenerate a bit when highly charged. But most of us have known each other for years, by our monikers, and know we have no true animosity for each other.

People used to chat here quite a bit in the early days. If you don't want to chat, fine. Do not dare to dictate to others and shape this page into what you want it to be; it's a group effort.

Stewart

There was a lot of 'degeneration' when I first started playing a month or so again - very nasty to see. But all in all I don't mind the chat on any topic. And really, if the chat bothers you switch over to My Friends so you don't see it.

harpjane

I don't think Dr. God has an opinion either way. The Babbly chat is full of off-topic comments. I think the nature of Sudoku doesn't not lend itself to as much chat. For one thing, people are off and on the site more quickly than Babble.

Did you figure out what crosshatchuing is jane? I'm sure you do it; just call it something else. I can get a pic for you if you want. (Basically.. not in this row, or this row or this column, so it must be here/can't be here...)
