@DrWho, the speed of the decline is such that -- if we continue with CO2 emissions as the last 50 years, all the Artcic sea ice will be gone completely before 2100. The sea ice extent varies yearly between 14 and 6 million sq kms, with record low of 4 mi. We will see an occasional ice free Artcic before 2050, with high probability.

The arctic sea ice is important for the albedo - the "whiteness" of the earth, which determines how much sun light is refelected immediately and does not warm the earth. So with this ice vanishing the earth will warm more.

pinhead, I don't think Phil hates the USA, I think he would like to see us do better. We have such a large impact on the rest of the world. We should learn to listen to the voices of others and look at ourselves. "You hate the U.S." "They hate Trump" is a way of deflecting criticism and not facing whether or not the criticism is valid and doing something about it.

I take issue with pinhead who says Phil hates America. It's more likely that like many of us he's expressing his awe and disappointment at what's happening in the USA. SAD!

But pinhead, I will correct Phil. We did not "elect" our current President. We "elected" HRC. Trump was put into office by the Electoral College.

thanks tuco. Pinhead, you must have not seen many previous comments that I have great respect for many things about the US and there are many amazing and inspirational Americans. It's more of a case that you could be so much more and you just don't seem to get to hear about whats happening in the rest of the world, the impact of ignorant and misplaced decisions made by your current President, and it's just so incredibly frustrating that you don't seem to care about the lives of your own citizens.

Phil, it is not just a problem that many in the U.S. don't hear what is happening in the rest of the world. They don't hear what is happening in this country. The loyal viewers of Fox News believe that California is going bankrupt, while it is actually running a budget surplus. It is Fox News (and others) that "hates America" by spreading lies and propaganda to divide us.

and Phil, don't know if this will make you feel better :-) I get told I hate my country all the time.

The US is alive and well.

Just because a few people in this very limited forum express a negative opinion, the overwhelming majority of Americans are happy, wealthy, have a positive outlook, and respect the rest of the world.

And I say this with eyes wide open. This country, like all countries, has problems.

Not sure what paper Tuco is reading but I find numerous articles from various sources (NONE of them Fox) that state the opposite concerning California debt:
