dr who I was regfering to your previous reply to me which was about guns, I stopped reading your climate related remarks some time ago. But related to your CO2 question: go read some text books first.

Knight Time, Have to concur, a beautiful mind and a generous spirit. We need more of his ilk.

Fortunately there are other fantastic scientists. They all seem to get along pretty well with each other. They have respect for others opinions and value in depth discussions. They also respect evidentiary findings.

It's the pollies and greedy businesses and lobbyists that stuff things up. Add to that list poor news reporting that doesn't check their sources and social media companies that think they don't have to take any responsibility or action for illegal or terrorist activity.

drwho, if the polar caps melt much faster, the sea level rise will wipe out small islands around the world. Does this not matter to you?

And the reason we argue over gun control is that human lives, thousands can be saved. There is so much utter rubbish portrayed as fact by the NRA that it is hardly surprising they are detested around the world.

Phew , what a relief, we can go live in the Polar regions - and here I was worried about predicted sea level risesforcing me out of my home in 30 years

They actually dismiss the Australian result of no mass shootings in over 20 years to statistical errors as the numbers were so small! Much respected statistical analysis has put over 16 mass shootings as the likely outcome over the same period if we had not banned semi automatic weapons.

wondering if polar land is available to buy yet? might make a killing if I get in now

Fortunately the major powers with claims on the antarctic currently have a moratorium on exploitation of the abundant resources that exist there. Sadly I don't hold out much hope for them all to actually agree that it all belongs to everyone and it might just not be in our global interests to wreck it.

Phil, every year the ice cap at the north pole melts. Not entirely of course, but an area of ice melts equal to the entire area of the continental United States. Every day during the summer an area equal to the state of West Virginia melts. Then in winter it all freezes again. Did you notice any small islands getting inundated?

H.K. take care of those ribs. I was just giving Tuco a little teasing as well as poking fun at the latest mass hysteria now known as climate change.

CO2 levels in the atmosphere are currently around 407 ppm. That's parts per million. We are currently adding about 2 ppm per year which is like cramming 2 more people into the Rose Bowl every 10 years.
9:12 am
drwho

While 407 ppm CO2 is high for recent history, it is by no means the highest it has ever been. People who claim to know these thing say it has been as high as 7000 ppm and the average for the history of the earth is around 4000 ppm.

So my "joke" about plants suffocating might not be that far off the mark. Some greenhouses raise their CO2 levels to between 1200 and 1300 ppm and the plants flourish.
9:17 am
drwho

CO2 at the current levels or the historical norms has virtually no effect on earth's albedo. It's the water vapor (clouds) that account for 95% of the greenhouse effect.

As for global warming, I'm told we are currently in an inter-glacial period of the latest ice age. So yes, the planet is going to warm up in the future. So what!
