MrO. blaming the NRA for the actions of insane and/or evil people (with no connection to the NRA) is not helpful and its very dishonest.

Tuco is insulted that I pointed out that teenagers (traumatized or not) are not qualified to run the world. Traumatizing them doesn't change that. At least MADD didn't try to ban automobiles or booze.

MADD is a great example. They could have campaigned to renew prohibition. But they focused on the root cause of the problem, which was that some people were acting irresponsibly. That's what we need to do about gun violence. Stop irresponsible and evil people from having guns, not take them away from everyone. With 8 million AR-15s in circulation, only a very small percentage of them are ever used in a crime.

I am open to Gun Violence Restraining Order legislation. I have suggested that metal detectors and armed guards at schools could stop most school shootings. Better handling of insane people would help too. The latest shooter had even been reported to the FBI as a potential danger, but nobody did anything.

MADD is a fine example. Other countries are an even better example. Just compare rates of gun violence to those countries who control guns.

Tuco - Gun ownership in America is a Constitutional right
granted by the 2nd Amendment. Yes, the courts have
interpreted that and yes, there are legislative restrictions
at the federal and state level, but it is still a right.
Just like freedom of speech is a right. It has been
expanded by court interpretation and restricted
legislatively (e.g. yelling "fire" in a theater when there
is no fire, a slander) but it is still a right.
