JudyHall, if you don't like the Iron Sudoku chatterbox, you do have the option of removing it from your screen entirely each time you open Iron Sudoku by clicking on the My Friends tab above the chatterbox display. The only drawback is that the My Friends display may annoy you by showing you don't have any (friends, that is). However, this is easily solved by picking one or more players from the Who's Online display and clicking Add to Friends. The players you pick will never know so make your My Friends list as long as you like.

I find it very irritating, as this is supposed to be a leisure site. However, last time I expressed such an opinion, i was the recipient of a very nasty tirade from Mr Ooijer.

When I first started there was very little chatter, and even now you can scroll down and read a whole days chat if you want pretty easily.

If you don't like it you can easily either ignore it or click on the my friends tab as previously mentioned. I think it would be a shame not to have intelligent discussions, after all we are humans and humans thrive on chat. I think it would be nice to maybe have a few chat topics nominated so we can avoid the politics a bit more.

We could try a new person each week nominating a topic. Who wants to try it for the festive season?

@fresca, sorry if you feel that way , but please tell me what is so nasty about that "tirade". and why you do not say the samet about those bt drwho - who's "tirades" are much longer. In any case my point was that if you want to discuss US politics, you will get via me some European views.

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to all. My wife was born on Xmas day so we celebrate the birth of the baby (insert wife's name here) on Xmas day. :-)

I have a topic. Should Holupki be considered an appropriate Holiday food? I say no. My wife says yes.

@TallMike ... You have been on "My Friends" list for a good while now, since the comments you have made in answer to my Iron Sudoku (and other) questions have always been very helpful !

Tuco, I am not a lover of cabbage on any day let alone one in celebration! But each to their own. And if you're wife is from Eastern Europe she may well have that tradition.

Firstly, may I take the opportunity to wish you all a very happy Christmas or whatever your tradition or religion is celebrated. Had the pleasure in listening to a young lady talking in Dari today. And Tuco, I'll share a cracker joke when I've pulled one tomorrow.

It will be a glorious 34 degrees tomorrow in Sunny Perth, that's about 93 Farenheit for the Americans in the room. Son and his partner are doing lunch, not sure what but we're bringing a lovely honey glazed ham with cloves. There will probably be pavlovas too, in the absence of any Kiwis, an Aussie favourite!

I'll be topping it off with a Weihenstephaner, something I thank the German's and their brewing purity laws - now this will amaze the colonies, they've been brewing it since 1050 - no that's not a misprint.

Working backwards to April 2006 puzzles; just completed Aug 2014 and am wondering just how long it might take me to finish. Roughly 8 years at the rate of (the daily puzzle +1 extra puzzle) per day is a long time, so I best step up my game if I want to become an "elite" before 2025 ... (chuckle) ...

JudyHall, in February 2015 I set out to do the same thing as you, working backwards. At some point I realized I needed to push my brain to learn more techniques in order to go faster. Each day I did the puzzle for the day plus an expert puzzle (unless the day's puzzle was itself an expert). I aimed not just to solve each puzzle but to work as fast as I could. When I ran out of experts, I switched to hards, etc. I am now working on mediums. I liked the results in that I learned a lot, fast.

TallMike, funny, I took the opposite approach, easies first. I have one expert from this previous week hanging, otherwise, I'm done. My advice - Don't be in a big hurry to finish, because then you'll have no extras to look forward to. :)
