Congrats to the Aussie swimmers, second behind the mighty USA. Phelps was something special and good to see a bit of emotion from him. Proves you can be a superstar and still be a human being without arrogance.

Let's see - education isn't in the Constitution. Let's make all pay for education. Roads aren't in the Constitution. Let's get rid of roads unless they're toll.

Maybe there was something easier that I missed. But I found a double virtual unique rectangle, that is, a unique rectangle, not exploited directly, but because it creates a virtual that creates another virtual, and that can be exploited. Neat. 18.

Diane, what's in the Constitution is the 10th amendment: All powers not enumerated for the Federal Government is left to the states. States are perfectly able to pay for education and roads.

Unike States are perfectly able to pay for schools and roads but they also take money from the Federal government to help pay for them. And sometimes the Federal government can use that fact to change States laws. See Reagans signing of the NMDAA

So you see. It is all about what side you are on. If obliterating states rights is okay when it comes to one policy, it should be okay for another policy. Or it should not be allowed at all. Unfortunately we fought a Civil War over this and unfortunately for the pure States Rights side, they lost.

And just try to drive either for pleasure or business from Maine to Florida if the InterState highways were controlled by the individual states. Why stop there? The individual counties should be free from the shackles of their state houses, right? And maybe the cities and villages in those counties can decide to okay slavery or charge a tariff for goods coming into that county, why not? Then the individual schools can teach that the Earth is 6000 years old and electricity is a mystery that God has provided us to use and no one knows how it works.

Oh that's right the market will solve all those problems. If you have to travel from Maine to Florida take a plane. But if you fly over different states air spaces will you have to pay a toll? Or stop to identify yourself? Maybe get shot down by their CAP?

Why do some people hate or mistrust the Federal Government. Like the right likes to say, we don't need more laws, we just need to enforce the ones we have. I would say we don't need to do away with government just make it more accountable and get the money out of it.

Thanks for the laugh, tuco. You really think it might be possible to get money out of the federal government? It was all spent long, long ago. What we are left with is the national debt. All $19.4 trillion of it. You can offer to pay your share if you like, almost $60,000 per citizen.
