Dr Who, the ABC and SBS are govt funded but certainly not influenced since the publics view is that they are public funded not govt funded and are therefore accountable to the publicans expected to be unbiased. There are many instances that govt whinges at what is said about them on public broadcasting. Bit like our legal system. Paid for by the public through govt taxes but independent, in no way politically appointed. I think they are both preferable than having govt dictate, especially when they receive their funds from big business through lobbyists who expect and often it seems do get what they want.
