The problem doc is the comma. If there was a period there I would agree with you totally. However Militia and People are in the same sentence. This is all moot however, we will never have sane gun control in this country until the minorities start shooting up Goldman Sachs.

Commas separate independent clauses, try an English class.

No matter how you try to parse it, the Second Amendment does not conform to the punctuation practices of modern English. The first and third commas appear to serve no useful purpose. Remove those commas and you get a much clearer meaning:

A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.

But does that express the meaning that was intended?

I wonder whether the obfuscation-by-commas was deliberate or accidental.

Oh well I guess the SCOTUS would agree with me. Domestic Abusers are People and they just had their rights infringed.

At the end of the day guys, just rewrite the thing, actually have a vote and if the will of the people is to get rid of arms then so be it. The pen is mightier than the sword. That is what democracy is all about. It's time in this world of violence to say enough is enough. We're better than this.
