so how does one get ranked?

you get points at the end of each puzzle then there's some complicated maths based on how many puzzles you do and how many you finish

Scribble, that's really cool for your mom that you could introduce her to this kind of thing. We have the same problem in my house--not enough access to the internet (we use the phone line)!
