Twp = Welsh word for a little bit touched in the head. As in, 'he's twp, he is'. It can be used affectionately, or insultingly.

Plus, it always makes me smile that the welsh word for carrot is moron. Yes, really.
3:04 am
Phil

How's it pronounced in English?
3:07 am
digondda

Moron is pronounced the same in English as Welsh, twp is pronounced almost like a very quick toop rather than a tup

digondda

the wp is pronounced like up in a Yorkshire/northern English accent, rather than up in a southern English accent...

digondda, are you telling me that there are accents other than American ones? They must be awful.

hk - agree about the SNL episode.

About Apple & privacy: in terms of the rest of the world, privacy in the US is a joke. There is none, and the US privacy laws are incredibly weak. (When I was in Canada, our worldwide customers were often concerned that we might store data in the US, which we didn't.) That's why I agree with Phil, that the Apple thing is much ado about nothing. I'm not ordinarily a conspiracy nut, but I wonder if it isn't a PR ploy by Apple.

Phil

I'm sure it is a PR thing but it's misguided and I think it will backfire. They're also getting too big for their boots and should not be dictating to a court.

Diane, in the UK you barely need to travel for half an hour and you can't understand them! I've been in Aus nearly 17 years so I've lost the ability to pick most of the UK regional accents. It's funny though with the strong ones. I can understand them all but a lot of Aussies hardly get any of it unless they slow down.

Then again try talking to a Glaswegian after he's been to the pub for an hour and I've got no chance!

Phil, there are some exceedingly strong regional accents here, as well. I remember attending a deposition about 100 miles from my then-home, and I could not understand the deponent unless I looked directly at her (and basically used lip reading). I always thought it was interesting that Canada was rather regional accent-less, except for the Maritimes.

Well, Diane, I am led to believe that some American men find the British accent very sexy :-D
9:28 am
digondda

In fact, on my last visit to the US, one of my friends friends just asked if I could talk to him about anything at all for half an hour!
9:29 am
digondda

This doesn't work the other way around of course. Most Brits find the French accent to be the sexiest...

I can't help feeling something is fishy about the government not being able to unlock the terrorist's iPhone. Maybe it is an attempt to give the terrorists a false sense of security.

drwho, its a case of getting into it if its got a password. You only get so many attempts. Actually you're probably right, I imagine they've found a way but want to set a precedent in case there's an app on it that wipes the drive after more than 3 failed attempts.
