after using no greens or reds, much to my amazement I finished this one. Thought I even blew it a couple times.

autofill - a couple of days ago, a member (krys10) mentioned a piece of javascript that she has in her profile - which will autofill the greens for an in-process sudoku.

if you dont know what that means, try holding the shift-key and hitting an empty-square. instead of a "normal" number, you get a little-green-number. you can use these to "track" your solving-process. (see the instructions)

ooh, it's like magic

the autofill is like magic. it makes it a lot more fun for me when I'm stuck. :)

yeah - i tried it for the first time yesterday-i-think and it was interesting. normally, i do the greens-by-hand. they get kinda distracting when theres too many of them, imo.
8:12 pm
moo

I used to think so but then I read this page and it's been fun to try some of their techniques. http://www.angusj.com/sudoku/hints.php

ill have to check it out - thanx.

you're welcome :)

that explains why ive always had trouble distinguishing naked vs hidden pairs. i usually determine a pair (either naked or hidden) without having pre-filled the greens, so i dont track whether it was naked or hidden... hmm.
8:22 pm
moo

i didn't really understand the concept when I first read it but now that i've used autofill i have.
8:24 pm
h

i found that autofill changed-my-approach... normally i do a lot of stuff in-my-head. only using greens when i cant-keep-track. it also explains why reds are useful as negatives (in help) which i didnt get before...

h

wellp, nice meeting you moo - i need to jet for a bit... take care.

i still don't really use reads. i found their naked triple and quad rule helps a lot. I never thought of that on my own. and their conjugate pair technique has really helped.
