Afternoon folks, re: "brute forcing" - it took me while, but no the grid doesn't need brute force or guesses today, you can use logic alone.

The key to today's puzzle is mutually exclusive pairs (or naked pairs - whatever tyhe technical term is?)

well, i can tell you other things that help... proper nutrition, exercise...

i know... and i'm failing miserably in both areas

also, mac, there are some mental exercises you can do... like picturing a place you feel safe, in great detail... it helps relax you.

you can also tense up each muscle group one at a time, and then relax it.

concentrate on your breathing, too.

along tht line hursh - something that's helped me is to clench muscle groups starting at my feet & working my way up

also, you can try repeating a calming word or phrase. i find the word "elephant" very calming for some reason. most people use something more normal.

i had a really bad accident about a year ago and have never really fully recovered

the other thing i have done to help fall asleep recently is what they do when you're going under general anesthesia - count backwards from 100. i generally fall asleep pretty well doing that.

Rose got named after a song I used to sing to her when she was a tiny kitten. So hers isn't a very good theme song but she knows the tune.(it's irish.) "rose, rose, rose, will I ever see thee wed?..."

Then there is Mahler (like the composer). He gets "Mahler Mahler Man" like "Macho Man" and "Mahler Man!" to the Mighty Mouse theme song

they don't have any trouble being housetrained, though I guess Nermal's the only one who lived out side very long. (She was about a year old when we found her.)

if you have 2 cells which contain the same 2 numbers in a given row, column, or group of 9, then those numbers MUST go there because nothing else can. thus they CANNOT go elsewhere in that row, column, or group and can be eliminated as possibilities elsewhere.

probably so that people could get some point accumulated before it actually started scoring people

trogdor, did you read the help. SHIFT and the mouse will let you pick numbers you think it is and put them in the box. You don't have to do it all in your head

Remember it is not "Guessing" if you try a 50/50 number and can see this lead to inconsistency a few moves ahead. This is the case here

Not guessing. Just putting down green numbers only if there are two possible locations. i.e. 50/50. When I eliminate one of the possibilities down the road.

Yes kind of. I try to do it in my head rather than fill out the numbers. If I can't keep it in my head it is probably too elaborate to persue as a tactic

i did this early this morning, but this is the first puzzle ive ever done where i had to select from a 2-possibility cell and follow it to a logical inconsistency...
