Difficulty score 21. Cross hatching and region intersection analysis will do it. You shouldn't need the green or red.

TO-- drwho -- how do you determine the "difficulty score"??

The difficulty score is generated by a progam I wrote to solve and analyze Sudoku puzzles.

The score is intended to indicate how long it might take you.

An interesting experiment would be for someone to see if there is a correlation between the time it takes for them to solve each puzzle and the difficulty score.

In theory, if it takes you about 10 minutes to solve today's 21, then yesterday's 13 might take you about 6 minutes.

I don't usually have the luxury of doing a puzzle without distractions, so can't really say it corrolates much to how long it takes me (hard to judge), but I really appreciate having the scores. If there's a puzzle that I thought was tough, but it has a low score, I know I prob. missed something obvious, so will watch better next time. :)

I your case elara6 it would indicate the time you spend on the puzzle between distractions :-).

I haven't tried to measure the correlation for myself yet, I am not disciplined enough to look at the clock when I start and finish, so I don't know exactly how long any puzzle takes.

But, maybe if I collected data from some of the people who do the start... finished! messages I could get some correlation statistics. Hmmm.

Note to self: Remember to *never* do start...finish messages. :)

I find an 'evil' puzzle from websudoku.com takes me about 20 minutes to complete. That's on paper with some special tick marks I use.

hmmm, i thought it was kind of easy compared to some mediums here lately

I think it has a lot to do with what methods you use, and which discoveries you make early in the game.

just did normal obvious fill-ins, then in the 3 centermost columns something was forced a bit... kind of plodding and walking around the board just got it done.

Hmmm.... I don't suppose the glass of champagne helped my cause any...

i wish i knew how some of these yayhoos solved the recent expert with no greens and no guesses.
