much easier than most past experts - used greens at the very end mostly to not lose my place but didn't need to guess at all, or even analyze all that hard

finished, but had to use greens/reds with 26 left, then guess once at r1c4 and r1c6. can anyone suggest what method they used to "not guess" and not use greens / reds?

brittlefish.com---I only used greens and had to quess once. I worked it twice and don't see any way to just 'scan'. Most 'guesses' will fill in the rest of the puzzle, regardless of where they are on the board.

thanks. i screenshotted the board before guessing and after finishing (good first guess) i went back and walked the wrong guess. unless i'm missing something it didn't lead to anything obviously wrong except another guess point.

was wondering if those who did it with no guesses saw something like an "xy wing with a hang ten" or some such strategy :)

I agree. Some guesses don't lead to a complete solution. I usually have to look to make a 'good' guess, one that will 'open up' the board.

hey guys, I mangaed without any guesses. I used a lot of greens though and had ti restart at one point, but after that I found it a lot easier than some hards

finished with no guesses. dont know the names of official strategies, but i am also new to sodoku / first hard puzzle, took me an hour and a half.

no guessing required if you use the greens. It was easy...definitely not an expert...I've seen worse mediums and hards

possibles show up in green and impossibles show in red, viet. hold shift while you click a number to place a possible

when you want to indicate that a square has the potential to be a number. To do this, click a square to bring up the selection box, and hold down the Shift key while clicking on the number. The selection box will disappear and the number will appear as a small, green subscript number in the square.

viet124--hold down the shift key or the alt key after clicking on a box and your small 'possibles' show up--making solution easier

red's are opposits

okay. agreed that it wasn't as bad as some hards, but it'd be nice to not have to guess at it. i suppose walking a chain is essentially guessing in your head what i did by actually filling in the guess until it works or doesn't.

Difficulty score 42. Maybe right, but if so this is the toughest one I have solve without the green or red. I found a couple simple coloring type forcing chains that broke it open for me.

where can I get information on colors?

www.scanraid.com/sudoku.htm is a good starting place. Look under tough strategies, he is a Brit so he spells color with a U :-).

Good point, I referred to reds and greens, also colors. They refer to the little numbers you can use for mark-up purposes. See earlier conversation from today's chat log.

Oh, I know about the red and green. I meant the strategies 'colors' and you pointed me in the right direction. But I still don't quite understand his explanation. I am probably doing the same thing and just don't realize what I Am doing ;)
