The mind can do amazing things. I celebrate anyone who can do thse puzzles in record time, but solving puzzles doesn't prove one is a better human being. There are many types of intelligence. Social IQ can require as much skill as problem solving. My friend James can do the most difficultjigsaw puzzles in one tenth the time it would take the average brainiac. Two things make him extraordinary in this respect. The first is that he does them upside down with the pictures hidden. The second is that he's retarded. He was a Rubella baby. So when I see people making claims that defy logic I tend to dismiss those people as frauds, but I do know from personal experience there are people with exceptional skills. How unfortunate that they often have an accompanying weakness in character that compels them to brag about it. My weakness is I must point theirs out to them, lol. Must be feelings of inadequacy that motivate us both? Good solving Adr41n. I stand corrected.

jackt's post caused me to peruse the chog. This is the most I've seen in here since I been doing IronSudoku (nothing like the Babble chog which is always busy). Most of the comments same tame.

jackt - I don't think the "feelings of inadequacy" are the motivating factors for the frustration expressed in the chog. I think it has to do with the anonymity of the commentators and the inability to validate the veracity of their claims. Kaosangel always seems to get the puzzle done in minutes. Dr Who typically gets it done quickly and without greens. Other get them done with or without greens. My guess is there is a large community that do them each day and say nothing, i.e. me.
While the EZPZ comment may be irritating, what difference does it make. Nothing short of observing Kaosangel do a puzzle live will ever convince skeptics of his ability.
I find most of these puzzles, except the real easy clicker ones, take me about 15-20 minutes. I can do the ones in the daily newspaper faster because it is done with pen and paper and not with a computer which slows me down.

No, you're right, Knight. It's not about feeling inadequate. Just the opposite. You're so right about the anonymity factor. I reacted instinctively. I guess my reptilian brain took over, lol. Sorry about that.

See, Kaos? I'm not the only one who finds you irritating.

But this is like, ridiculous. You're getting irritated by someone you don't know and will never meet, purely because they can do a sudoku puzzle quickly?
I think it's time to re-evaluate your life, Angie...

I too measure myself against you. I figure if I can get within a couple of minutes of you I'm doing well. It's always good to have a yardstick to measure against and a challenge to improve.

Wow. Talkative bunch today, eh? I use other people's posts (EZPZ, went green, etc.) as a gauge as to what I can expect from a puzzle. Nothing that's been posted here has ever really bothered me (unless people were being outright rude or close-minded) and I'm glad that we've hardly ever strayed into politics or religion (Angie's "are they satire or not" posts notwithstanding). Some puzzles I find incredibly easy that others have a lot of trouble with. Some I find incredibly hard that others find "EZPZ." It's all good. If you take personally what someone else views a given puzzle as being, then you need to walk away and get some perspective. They're just puzzles. If someone's post makes you feel inadequate, I think that's your fault, not theirs. Unless, of course, they call you a big stinkin' idjit. Which I haven't seen. Yet.

Ding. Not EZPZ for me but I stuck with it and didn't use greens in the end. No advanced techniques required. Took me about 20 minutes (not timing today).

Gretchen

I agree, Andy - I use the posts to gauge how long it maybe "should" take me and sometimes it's a lot longer and sometimes shorter but it doesn't make me feel inadequate in any way. Mostly if people are saying it's EZPZ (with the exception of Kaos), it makes me more determined to figure it out without greens. Kaos - I never took your EZPZ as bragging or obnoxious BTW.

SamanthaJoy - you'll get there, it just takes practice. I'm much better at the puzzles now than when I first started a couple years ago now, I think. I'm not sure I ever did a medium without greens in the beginning and now I can often do the hards without. As long as you enjoy it, it doesn't matter anyway.
