i think it's my chrome - alt click seems to want to grab the window and move it - i'm going to try and turn that off in my system prefs

i think i've got it: in gnome, go to prefs > window's and there's a "to move a window" and it give a choice of keys - i set it to "super/windows" key instead of alt - i'm going to restart gnome to see if it fixes the problem
