Does anyone else think that this puzzle should be rated "hard"?
12:18 am
lawfully

12:19 am
Playwoman

I'm having trouble getting started. I've filled in only two spaces so far!
12:20 am
lawfully

4 places for me
12:22 am
Playwoman

I might just save this one for morning.
12:24 am

1:38 am
augurus

I woke up, and it's yesterday.
1:40 am
sprite

I think I having a retarded day today.
1:40 am
sprite

*am having
1:41 am
grigs

i think you just made your own point, sprite :)
1:41 am
sprite

I think so too :)
1:43 am
mab

morning all. this game is somewhat mysterious to me. this one solved itself before i could finish marking it. yet sometimes i get stuck on an easy puzzle.
1:44 am
sprite

I did not have a problem with yesterday's hard. And I am completely stuck with this one. I agree on the mysterious part :)
1:44 am
mab

I couldn't finish yesterday's to save my life.
1:45 am
grigs

i'm with sprite, i don't think I even hardly marked yesterday's, but this one sits here and MOCKS me
1:45 am
sprite

I am not even halfway with this one and I feel about the same, mab ;)
1:46 am
sprite

It is mocking us, isn't it, grigs... That must be that sneeky, nasty sound I keep hearing!
1:47 am
grigs

yup. what is the sound of one sudoku mocking?
1:47 am
sprite

Very zen :)
1:48 am
mab

I know from experience that it makes a difference where I start. that's how I'm learning is by redoing, and redoing...
1:48 am
grigs

sudoku mocks me
i fill in half the numbers
i still am not done
1:49 am
sprite

AND a haiku! A man after my own heart, grigs. Only not a sudoku I could learn to love today.
1:49 am
bangping

Oh, dear. Isn't Sudoku haiku one of the signs of the coming Apocalypse?
1:49 am
mab

this was like a zen koan for me! ooooo. and a haiku! how clever grigs.
1:50 am
grigs

nah. or if it is, bangping, it's only like the 2nd seal. clearly, there must be 9 seals in the Sudokalypse
1:50 am
mab

I was just going to say that, sprite, a man after my own heart.
1:50 am
bangping

*laugh grigs*
1:51 am
grigs

of course, this isn't getting me any closer to solving the puzzle.
1:51 am
sprite

You mean by not finishing this sudoku, I can put off the apocalyps a day longer?
1:51 am
bangping

I'm pondering using my famous Cheezits solution.
1:51 am
bangping

When a puzzle stumps me, I go get a handful of Cheezits.
1:51 am
mab

you mean I have helped the coming of the end of ends?
1:52 am
grigs

oh. i just get a handful of whiskey. do cheezits work better?
1:52 am
mab

that seems sensible bangping
1:52 am
sprite

This is scary. I am making progress all of a sudden.
1:53 am
bangping

Well, after many handfuls of cheezits, I can still see the board. Can you say the same for whisky?
1:53 am
mab

yes! it's a magical puzzle!
1:53 am
sprite

The question is, does seeing the board help with finishing the puzzle?
1:54 am
bangping

Well, it could be argued that an infinite number of monkeys with an infinite number of computers could solve it without looking at the board... but I find it usually helps :)
1:56 am
sprite

Well, somehow, I was inspired by the koan and the haiku.
I just stopped thinking
numbers fell in place somehow
a sudoku solved
1:56 am
sprite

Thank you grigs :)
2:00 am
mab

very nice sprite :D
2:07 am
bangping

Got it! Bedtime :)

5:21 am
hurshy

hello david mitchell
5:22 am
David Mitchell

How are you?
5:22 am
hurshy

i'm ok thanks. a bit disappointed today but oh well.
5:22 am
David Mitchell

What's the disappointment?
5:23 am
hurshy

had to take a pass on seeing normandy to catch up on sleep. there was no way i'd make it through such a long day... but i really wanted to go there.
5:23 am
David Mitchell

Oh :(
5:24 am
hurshy

so now i'm catching up on sudoku too
5:24 am
David Mitchell

I hope you have another opportunity soon
5:24 am
hurshy

oh i doubt that i will. but hopefully my husband will take lots of pics.
5:27 am
hurshy

i'm doing june 21 at the moment. it's a bit obstinate.
5:27 am
David Mitchell

I haven't been here much for a while... I can't recall that one
5:28 am
hurshy

aha
5:34 am
David Mitchell

Well, I must go get ready for my day
5:35 am
David Mitchell

Take care, hurshy
8:15 am
caffeinatedelf

hallo hurshy! :) dunno if you're around still, but hullo just the same.
8:15 am
hurshy

i am here, i'm doing a bunch of back puzzles.
8:15 am
hurshy

how are you?
8:19 am
Krys10

hey hurshy! you still traveling?
8:19 am
hurshy

yes
8:19 am
Krys10

how's the trip going?
8:20 am
hurshy

pretty good. today, sadly, i was too tired to go to normandy, which i really wanted to do. i'm having a good relax-day, but i wish it didn't have to fall on normandy day.
8:20 am
Krys10

a bummer, indeed. but then, normandy has been there a long time and it's bound to be there next time too :)
8:21 am
hurshy

yes
8:21 am
hurshy

i am even more bummed we are leaving on sunday for amsterdam, i really want to stay in paris for the final
8:22 am
Krys10

what time is it there?
8:23 am
hurshy

almost 3:30
8:23 am
hurshy

you're up early!
8:23 am
Krys10

yeah, had trouble sleeping
8:24 am
hurshy

me too, hence the missing normandy.
8:25 am
Krys10

on the other hand, you get a day to yourself to catch with people and puzzles!
8:25 am
hurshy

yes. i just wish i could go to normandy tomorrow :)
8:25 am
Krys10

how's the arrangement with the student you're traveling with? getting along ok?
8:25 am
hurshy

it's fine. his sister joined us here in paris. it's a little harder with her along. he's very conservative in what he likes to do but she's all, let's go to nightclubs
8:26 am
Krys10

is she going to be along for the rest of the trip? (how long is the rest of the trip, anyway?)
8:27 am
hurshy

i forgot, temporarily, that most teenagers want to "experience" things
8:27 am
hurshy

2 more weeks, and yes.
8:27 am
Krys10

amsterdam oughta be a fun experiencial event
8:28 am
hurshy

it should be interesting to see how it all goes
8:28 am
hurshy

we got a waiver from the parents at the beginning that if the boy does anything crazy we're not liable...but we haven't got one on the sister since this was added to the plan later after we were already in europe.
8:29 am
hurshy

and she's 17, and he's 18
8:29 am
Krys10

ah, the wonderful world of .pdfs
8:30 am
hurshy

yeah, maybe
8:30 am
hurshy

i could see that my husband was getting a little worried yesterday.
8:30 am
Krys10

where are you accessing internet from?
8:30 am
hurshy

the hotel. wireless in room.
8:30 am
hurshy

not free of course.
8:31 am
Krys10

if the parents are available, shouldn't be too hard to get a waiver that's the same form with the sister's name, have it emailed to you...
8:31 am
Krys10

would put your husband's mind at rest
8:31 am
Krys10

have you been to the UK yet?
8:31 am
hurshy

yes...not sure how the signature thing would work?
8:31 am
hurshy

no UK is last. we go there after amsterdam.
8:33 am
Krys10

the parents could make a hard copy, sign it, scan it, email you a .pdf that you could print out and sign. and they could mail you the hard copy so it'd be waiting for you when you got back, if you wanted.
8:33 am
hurshy

right. they're kinda flaky though.
8:33 am
hurshy

but i'll suggest it and i'm sure we'll try.
8:33 am
Krys10

i do it a lot with tutoring bills - email a copy of what i've put in the mail when there's more than one household involved
8:35 am
hurshy

have peaches got vitamin C?
8:36 am
Krys10

probably.
8:36 am
Krys10

do you have scurvy?
8:36 am
yul

hello
8:37 am
hurshy

lol, no i haven't got scurvy but my throat's been tickly a lot on the trip - never developing into anything - but i'm drinking peach juice and i thought it would be nice if it has vitamin C
8:37 am
hurshy

hi yul
8:37 am
Krys10

hi yul!
Hurshy, according to this:
http://allergies.about.com/cs/vitaminc/
a/aa022601a.htm
they do
8:37 am
hurshy

ok good :)
8:38 am
Krys10

the immature fruits have more than the ripe ones. and it's sometimes used as a preservative in frozen peaches
8:38 am
hurshy

well this is nectar.
8:38 am
hurshy

they don't give as much info on the label as products do in the US
8:38 am
Krys10

was it frozen at some point?
8:38 am
Krys10

(do you speak/read french? how've you been getting along?)
8:39 am
hurshy

i don't think so.
8:39 am
hurshy

je parle un peu
8:39 am
Krys10

ca suffit, peut-etre
8:39 am
hurshy

but my husband was born here so he speaks fluently
8:40 am
hurshy

i like it when he's not around, though, and i get to try it out myself.
8:40 am
hurshy

we got to learn a little italian. we had the most trouble in spain.
8:41 am
hurshy

i understand a lot more french than i can speak. it's so hard to come up with sentences fast enough.
8:41 am
Krys10

when i was living in stockholm with my husband before we were married, he was working ten hours a day and i found i was getting really low because i'm a big reader, and i was illiterate
8:41 am
hurshy

:(
8:42 am
Krys10

it was an interesting experience - I'm glad I had it. but I remember looking foward to the day of the week when the American weeklies hit the newsstand
8:42 am
hurshy

didn't they have english books in big bookstores? i picked up some the other day cause i didn't bring enough along.
8:43 am
yul

and internet?
8:43 am
hurshy

dude
8:43 am
hurshy

that was weird
8:43 am
Krys10

didn't see any bookstores with english books. my biggest frustrations were simple things like riding the bus and using the dryer. grocery shopping was ok because i'd bring a dictionary with me and people would see me using it and would help. nouns are easy.
8:44 am
hurshy

it just sounded like an argument between a lady speaking english with an asian accent and a man speaking french.
8:44 am
hurshy

out in the hall.
8:44 am
Krys10

internet was really helpful, sure, as far as keeping in touch, but I was half-way around the world, so all my friends were out of sync. IM was very lonely and it was hard to get out in the world. I played a lot of The Sims.
8:44 am
Krys10

huh
8:45 am
Krys10

bilingual spat.
8:46 am
hurshy

urf, i think i ate too many tartelettes
8:46 am
yul

yes, if you are 10 hrs apart...
8:47 am
Krys10

my husband would call with excuses to get me out of the house: "honey, I think we're out of milk..."
8:47 am
Krys10

were they good tartelettes?
8:47 am
peep

hi krys10!
8:48 am
Krys10

hi mom!
8:48 am
hurshy

yes good tartelettes
8:50 am
peep

I remembered to check before I start. I'm all caught up in the archives. Now I'm wating to be elite and hot at the same time!!
8:50 am
Krys10

heh. i have been behind lately - taking my time. also new morning routine now, not as much time for puzzling...
8:52 am
peep

I'm a tad compulsive about them. I kept one of the puzzles that was giving me trouble. I got it to a point that should have just melted away and was stuck and forced to guess. I wanted to show it to you.
8:52 am
Krys10

we can trade strategies at some point. i'll get out there sooner or later.
8:54 am
peep

I'm going to try to put you on my friends list and then will concentrate on the puzzle. Love ya,
8:54 am
Krys10

i'll stay online so you can mess with the friends list, but i have to go - must do phoenix stuff and then bring her to the vet.
8:55 am
Krys10

talk to you later. hurshy, i hope you enjoy the rest of your trip!
9:21 am
yul

finished
9:24 am
ShadowWolf

hello
9:24 am
ShadowWolf

is this really medium or medium hard
9:39 am
brainwidth

Couldn't do this one without marking. Once I dropped some marks in, though, it was quite easy.
10:53 am
spellacked

ShadowWolf - I'd put this at Easy-Medium. I never put more than three marks in a square, and most of those dropped out to two quickly.
11:21 am
spazzy

wow - what a great morning - starting my day with sudoku, popsicles, and pizza
2:12 pm

2:54 pm
hurshy

3:40 pm
richboy109

where can i find solutions?
3:49 pm
GEM14

is there a way to change the difficulty level?
3:50 pm
GEM14

i didn't even need any markings on this one.. didn't even take 10 minutes
3:56 pm
hurshy

there's one puzzle per day, the difficulty is randomly selected each day, you can find solutions by doing the puzzle.
3:56 pm
shutterbug

HI hursdhy.
3:56 pm
shutterbug

Hurshy.
4:33 pm
shutterbug

WHEW!!! That was easy!!!!!
5:17 pm

5:19 pm
pwinnski

GEM14, if you sign up as a Pro member, you can play all of the old puzzles as well, some of which are considerably more difficult. As it is, you can see them on screen and solve them on paper. :-)
