Similar. I've had a day off from working on getting my new house ready to move into. Tomorrow is a cleaning day at the new place. (A good thing, but a bit tiring).

Today was the last graduation party of the season. Nice kids. One of my former students was there ... he will be a university junior next year. Good conversation.

Yes. I'm not even changing zip codes. I am very much looking forward to living in a house to which I'm not allergic.

I can imagine. You're relatively sure the allergies will be ok in the new place?

I've just bought a house that had only one room with carpet and that carpet is already ripped out. I even tore out the subflooring (particle board) and had it replaced with solid wood, both for subflooring and floor.

oh, very nice. Allergies are so pervasive. Can't enjoy anything with runny eyes and sniffles.

Ah ... that's not quite my problem. I get headaches. So, good bye to particle board and carpet and I am hopeful that I can awake without a headache more often than not.

Ugh. Still though, it's something that can really affect quality of life.

Yes. Lot's of other work to do before I can move though. The floor is almost complete in that one room. I still need to do some roof repairs, a little more plumbing work, replace the garage doors that are rotting away, put a fire wall between the garage and the house, and more. A friend once told me that a house is a hole in the ground where you can reside and pour your "spare" time and money. 8-)

Do you have other stuff going on this summer, or will you be free to work on the house?

You mean besides sudoku? 8-)

Seriously, not a lot. I'm still working on rewriting my curriculum for the next school year, but the house will have the rest of my attention.

Nope. I'm currently dealing with owning two houses. (As my pocketbook shrinks in a hurry). I can't move until a few more repairs are completed. It's okay. I knew what I was getting into and planned pretty carefully.

I'm sure it'll be nice when that's taken care of though.

Yep. Among other things, I will also have the space to unpack my many boxes of books. They have been boxed up for far too long.

So, how does your summer look, Elara?

A few busy times at work (I'm a grants administrator at Univ of MI, so am coming up on some proposal deadlines for NIH and others), but otherwise, pretty good. Just have some chorus performances on a few scattered dates. :)

What type of music are you performing?

barbershop. I'm in Sweet Adelines (international women's barbershop-harmony society, and also what my icon stands for :) )

That sounds like fun. I love to sing, but in such groups I'm called a traitor. (I drift to the line of the person singing nearest to me). Lessons would be necessary for me to do more.

Does your group enter the competitions?

You'd be surprised how easily that comes if you sing every week (not "leaning" on other parts). And yep, we compete each spring in our Regional competition. We're only a mid-sized chorus (~50 members), so we don't have much of a shot at 1st overall, but this year we took 5th overall, so were quite happy :)

Fifty members sounds huge to me. I don't really have time for that ... with other hobbies in addition to teaching. I do music, but it is instrumental for my passion. 8-)

Yeah, it does end up taking quite a bit of time, but it's been a great thing for me. Wonderful folks. :)

I understand and feel similarly about the instrumental groups that I play with. Music is a great stress release and joy in whatever form.
