Hi guys! Anybody have any puzzle-solving tips for the harder puzzles? I do fine with the easy and medium crowd, but the hard ones tend to stump me. Any tips from you sudoku experts out there?

redhead - do you know how to do subscripts?

Krys10

there's lots of information on the web about advanced sudoku strategies (some sites are totally incomprehensible, IMO, but the more graphics the better!) Wikipedia has a lot. What helped me the most was getting a program called Sudoku Susser, which is easy to find and download. It will walk you through puzzles step by step, giving hints about what techniques are needed to progress, and even highlights sections of the puzzle for you if you want.

Also, if you are already using subscripts (green numbers) to help you, you may be interested in the script that someone here wrote - it will auto-fill the green numbers for you. Click on my profile - the script is at the end. Paste it in the URL window of your browser and hit enter!

Wow, awesome - thanks guys!

you can also use a program called simple sudoku (at www.angusj.com/sudoku/hints.php) to lay out the puzzles from iron sudoku, then let it guide you through how to solve it. there are all sorts of strategies like xwing, etc., but it's really all just common sense to eliminate possiblities 'til you have the answers.

sudoku susser does that too - you can actually drag the graphic into the program to enter a puzzle in.

I'm getting better at doing these without subscripts! Just finished - back later for the new puzzle :)

ls and Krys10 - thanks a TON for the info. Krys10: does that javascript work on archived puzzles at all?
